New Hampshire's Julie Bigg Veazey has created an intimate coming-of-age novel set in an elite girls' boarding school in the 1950s, rich in psychological insights, compelling characters, and gothic elements. Silent Cry is a moving story of strength in the face of shattering life-changing events. @goodreads

This is a very short book. I loved all of the characters accept for some of the teachers. These girls are sent by their parents to this very elite school, but it's really a place where parents want to send their girls to get rid of them for whatever reason.

One girl got pregnant and they didn't let her keep the baby. One girl is just in the way of her rich parents, that sort of thing. Several of these girls form a little group. They smoke, get into trouble, complain about teachers, have affairs, etc.

I loved the setting of the book as well. The ending was so very sad though. I'm not saying anything, but I was hoping for something better for two of the girls.

At any rate, this was a great little gem out of the blue. 4 Stars
